Part biography, part clip essay, part abstract painting, Between Two Cinemas integrates 4K restorations of his old films inside a new documentary/essay linking them.

 

Ross Lipman

is an independent filmmaker, archivist, and essayist. His films have screened throughout the world and been collected by museums and institutions including the Academy Film Archive, Anthology Film Archives, Northeast Historic Film, the Oberhausen Kurzfilm Archive, Budapest's Balazs Bela Studios, and Munich's Sammlung Goetz. His feature documentary, Notfilm, was named one of the 10 best films of the year by ARTFORUM, SLATE, and many others.

Formerly Senior Film Restorationist at the UCLA Film & Television Archive, his many restorations include Charles Burnett's Killer of Sheep, Kent Mackenzie's The Exiles, the Academy Award-winning documentary The Times of Harvey Milk, and works by Charlie Chaplin, Orson Welles, Shirley Clarke, Kenneth Anger, Barbara Loden, Robert Altman, and John Cassavetes.

Ross Lipman
Restaurador, cineasta independiente y ensayista estadounidense. Es reconocido por su documental Notfilm (2015), su trabajo con Bruce Corner Family Trust y como restaurador de películas senior en el UCLAFilm & Television Archive, donde restauró numerosas obras independientes y de vanguardia.

Lipman recibió el 2008 los honores de preservación del Anthology Film Archives y es tres veces ganador del premio de la National Society of Film Critics' Heritage Award. Sus ensayos sobre historia, tecnología y estética del cine se han publicado en Artforum, Sight and Sound, y diversos libros y revistas académicas. Sus películas se han proyectado internacionalmente y han sido recopiladas por museos y archivos.
